9:16 1080 × 1920
WhatsApp Status, and LinkedIn and Instagram video full screen on a phone.
Recommended A, words above
The words sit high, where the eye lands first, clear of everything the apps draw over a video. The page runs on to the bottom edge, so the frame never looks letterboxed, and the words and the lit parts stay inside the middle 4:5 that a feed crop keeps.
It is the landscape cut turned on its side: the panel becomes the band, the title’s black rises into it, and the four recorded beats crop straight in.
One catch, in Reels only: its caption covers the bottom fifth, which hides the last line of the share and pipeline pages here; WhatsApp’s reply bar sits lower and clears them. B keeps its page clear of the caption, but its tag lands under it, the page comes before the line that explains it, and dead ink fills the bottom. C is clean, but it drops the page that shows this is the real portal, and each lit part would have to be cut out of a moving recording.
Frames are shown up to 390 px wide, a phone’s width. Click one for full size.
Shaded: where WhatsApp, Instagram Reels and LinkedIn draw their bars, captions and buttons. Dashed: the middle 4:5 that a feed crop keeps.
The whole cut, layout by layout
Beat by beat
A Words above
The side panel turns into a band across the top; the page sits under it, framed as the landscape cut frames it.
Lines 36.6 px on a phone (landscape 17.1)
Page at 0.84x the recording: figures 12.8 to 15.1 px, body text 8.4 to 9.0 px (landscape 8.6 to 10.1, and 5.6 to 6.0)
The title's black rises into the band; each beat cuts in under it.
B Words below
The page leads and the words follow in a band underneath, like a caption.

Page at 0.84x the recording: figures 12.8 to 15.1 px, body text 8.4 to 9.0 px (landscape 8.6 to 10.1, and 5.6 to 6.0)
The title's black sinks into the band; each beat cuts in above it.
C Lifted
The page drops away; the lit part sits on the ink with its words, as the bubble card does.
Lines 36.6 px on a phone (landscape 17.1)
The lit part alone at 0.81 to 0.92x the recording: figures 12.3 to 16.5 px, body text 8.0 to 8.9 px
The title lifts away; each lit part arrives on the ink, as the bubble does.
4:5 1080 × 1350
The LinkedIn and Instagram feeds, and a video sent in a WhatsApp chat.
Recommended A, words above
The same picture as the 9:16’s middle, so one build gives both shapes. In a feed the line is the hook, so it comes first, and the page follows as the proof.
B is a fair second here, since nothing covers a 4:5 video in the feed, but the eye meets the page before it knows what to look for. C reads well on Northwind and the statement, and loses the context everywhere else.

What the real portrait cut would take
Reuses
- The four live beats. Each recorded clip is cropped right of the panel (x 641 to 1919) and scaled to 1080 wide, 0.84x, so it stays sharp. Camera moves and highlights come with it; nothing is re-recorded.
- The timeline, cue sheet and music. Keep every edit point and the score fits as it is, the wall’s five-beat build included.
- The words: the same strings. Only the line breaks change.
Needs making
- The band’s words, timed to the cue sheet, with the panel line’s own entrance.
- Portrait versions of the three crafted sequences: the title folding up into the band, the bubble card, and the close (the page falls away under the band, the months land in rows of five, then the end card).
- The tag, top right in the band, set in Saira.
- The 9:16 export: the 4:5 picture with 285 px of band ink above and the page’s tone below.
- QA gates aimed at the new geometry: the tag’s zone, the 4:5 core, phone sheets at 390 px.
Risks
- Page body text reaches about 9 px on a phone. More needs re-recording at a narrow viewport, so the portal reflows and the camera can zoom further: a much bigger job.
- The statement page slides up behind the band. Check that the camera stays inside the crop on every frame of every clip.
- The folds are new motion and need your eye on a moving preview.
- WhatsApp re-encodes hard. Check a round trip on a phone.
- Instagram Reels lays its caption over the bottom fifth of a 9:16, across the last line of the share and pipeline pages in A. WhatsApp’s reply bar sits lower and clears them.
- The landscape cut’s “Illustrative figures” tag renders in a fallback sans, not Saira: the page that draws it loses the font. Fix it in both cuts.
Set aside: words over the dimmed page
These recordings leave no free page beside the lit part (share lights the whole page), so the words would either cover it or jump from beat to beat. It needs re-framed recordings.
Set aside: a narrow side panel, as now
In portrait the page would show at 0.56x the recording, no larger on a phone than it is in the landscape cut.
